| Brenda
de Jager (38) began a career in journalism by getting
her first article printed at the age of fifteen; she gained
formal qualifications from the Academy of Journalism and
worked for several years for two Dutch newspapers. She
then moved on - to reporting on Dutch television. One
area she was involved in was reporting news for young
people, which has remained a special interest. More recently
she is working as a producer for several independent production
companies, and as a researcher for documentaries as well
as teaching journalism on a tv journalism degree course.
Brenda has been with Jemstone for almost 10 years now,
the last five years as deputy director and has an extensive
experience in designing, organising and running journalism
skills workshops in the Middle East.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: (from present
to past)
Present
Deputy Director The Jemstone Network,
the biggest Media Training Development Network in the
Middle East. The Jemstone Network is an NGO specialised
in Independent Media, Internet Development and Civil
Society Programmes in the Middle East, including Yemen.
- Responsible for workshop designing, organising and
running of media skills workshops, since 1994. By
now around 1200 journalists from the Middle East have
been involved in these skills workshops and master
classes. Since 2002 workshop are focusing on conflict
resolution and prevention in the region.
- Organiser of an intensive high level practical 4
week skills course for 36 young journalists out of
the Middle East. Radio, tv, newspaper and internet,
Hilversum, the Netherlands.
- Managing Jemstone's extensive database of around
1500 media figures and journalists in the Middle East
and Europe.
- Actively involved in running media related Development
Programmes for the UN, EU and World Bank.
- Initiator of the UN Volunteer of the Year Award
in Jordan

- It includes lectures about TV Journalism and ethics,
TV formats, mass communications, News and Audience
Research plus running practical TV lectures on reporting,
studio interviewing and research.
